The suggested study will analyzes the antisemitic discourse of the Greek neo-Nazi ex-political party, the Golden Dawn (Χρυσή Αυγή). This qualitative discourse analysis will cover materials published throughout its existence, from its first magazine issue in early 1993 to its eventual designation as a criminal organization in October 2020. Focusing on its magazine, speeches, and youth movement blog posts, this research highlights three key aspects of the Golden Dawn’s antisemitism: First, it reflects classical antisemitism, portraying Jews as shadowy figures manipulating global powers, including the United States and European Union, through conspiracy theories that cast Jews as the puppet masters behind governments and international organizations. Second, the Golden Dawn conflates Zionism and Judaism, failing to distinguish between the religious and nationalist aspects of Jewish identity, and viewing them as a single entity. This confusion leads to the conflation of religious, cultural, and political criticisms. Third, the party blames “Judaism-Zionism” for perceived decadence and moral decline in contemporary society, particularly in Greece, attributing both “degenerate” American culture and Bolshevism to Jewish influence. This thematic structure allows for a comprehensive analysis of each point, situating the Golden Dawn’s antisemitic rhetoric within a broader global context, highlighting its connections to longstanding antisemitic narratives, and comparing it to similar rhetoric in other countries.
