Jews did not endure any forms of prejudice and discrimination in ancient India. Modern India, after independence in 1947, may be the only exceptional country with no trace of Anti-Semitism in the world. India has had a solid strategic partnership with Israel since 1992. In the current Israel-Hamas war, India is one of the strong allies of Israel in Asia. However, in public spaces, university campuses, and civil society domains, anti-Israelism is the reality that has resurfaced in the last eight months. Mainstream Indian left-liberal intelligentsia has perceived Israel as a Settler-Colonial State which is singlehandedly responsible for the Palestinian statelessness. Such a perception emanates from a few Anti-Semitic tropes: Jews do not belong to the land of Palestine, Jews conspired with the colonial and imperial powers to establish the state, Jews are not the vulnerable or victims but tend to manipulate narrative with their (hi)story of Holocaust. This research will present popular writings, public debates, and popular discourse from Oct. 7 onwards to analyze the undercurrents of new forms of Anti-Semitism in India.
