Antisemitism Two Years After October 7

Antisemitism Two Years After October 7

This collection of essays by Comper Center scholars explore the effects of the most consequential event in recent Jewish and Israeli history — the Hamas assault of October 7, 2023, and the ensuing two years of war in Gaza — and the unprecedented surge of antisemitism it unleashed across the Western world.

These essays are also presented in shorter, op-ed form, in a dedicated section in The Times of Israel.

The essays span theoretical, cultural, and geopolitical perspectives – tracing how anti-Zionism has evolved into a modern “political theology;” amplified by digital networks; hardened into a pervasive ideology in the guise of critique; while exposing how propaganda revives familiar patterns of past anti-Zionist assaults. They introduce new concepts such as “Erasive Jew-Hate,” question whether antisemitism will become a “new normal,” and examine its spread across contexts as varied as Greece, India, and Holocaust denial movements worldwide. Throughout, we wrestle with the issue of antizionism as a manifestation of antisemitism.

Through this essay collection we at the Comper Center approach this consequential anniversary of October 7 honestly, thoughtfully, in an intellectually vibrant and tolerant environment.
